How to load and use the
Round Window model:
- When
the program gets started, the teaching model will be loaded automatically.
- Or select
File/Load Visible Ear Model in the "Main Controls" window,
everthing will be loaded automatically.
- Check
or uncheck the "show" check box to display or hide one or a goup of anatomical
structures.
- Use
the "transparency" slider to control the transparency of each structure.
- Check
the "show" check box under "Histological Sections" to display the 2-D
sections.
Menus:
File Menu:
- Load
Teaching Model: Load the Teaching models all at once.
- Load
a single .wrl file: Load individual .wrl file for display. Only load .wrl
file generated by Amira. You may use this option to load your own 3-D model
generated by Amira into this viewer.
How to export a surface model
from Amira to EPL 3-D Surface Viewer:

In
Amira, load up the surface file of the model that you would like to export
and attach a "SurfaceView" module to it.

Right
click "SurfaceView" to bring up the menu, then select "VRML-Export"

Use
the default values for all the parameters in "VRML-Export", specify the
filename and path, and then click the "DoIt" button.

The
VRML file that has been exported can be loaded into the stand-alone software
using the "File/Load a single .vrl file" option in the menu.
- Quit:
Quit EPL 3-D Surface Viewer.
*Note: "../" in the file or
directory chooser window means "go to the upper level
directory".
Edit Menu:
- Reset:
Center the models and reset to original position.
- Show
all: Display all the models that are currently loaded.
- Hide
all: Hide all the models that are currently loaded.
- Change
Background Color:
-- Black: Set background color as
black.
-- Gradual Blue: Set background color as
graduated blue color.
-- Color Chooser: Choose a background color.
Mouse:
- Use
left mouse button to rotate model.
- Use
right mouse button to zoom in or out. Hold down the right mouse
button and push or drag the mouse vertically to zoom.
- If
your mouse only has one button, use that button as the left button to rotate
model. To zoom, hold down the "Shift" key on the keyboard, hold
down the mouse button and push or drag the mouse vertically.
Keyboard:
- Use
'Esc' to quit program.
Control Widgets:
- TransX
(slider): Move models along X axis.
- TransY
(slider): Move models along Y axis.
- RotX
(roller): Rotate models around X axis. Select the round radio button
beside RotX roller will create motion around X axis. Move the mouse over the
display window, press '+' will increase rotation speed, and '-' to slow down.
- RotY
(roller): Rotate models around Y axis. Select the round radio button
beside RotY roller will create motion around Y axis. Move the mouse over the
display window, press '+' will increase rotation speed, and '-' to slow down.
- RESET
(button): Center the models. It has the same function as the "Reset"
menu item.
- Zoom
(roller): Zoom in or out.
- Show
(check button): Turn the display of the model (or sections) on or
off. Use the check box in front of each group name (e.g. External Ear) to turn
display of the whole group on or off.
- Transparency
(value slider): Change the degree of transparency of the model.
- Section Number
(counter): Step through the sections.
- Clipping
(value slider): Cut the surface models using the section plane. Move the
slider to the left position (value = -1) to cut the left part. Move the slider
to the right position (value = 1) to cut the right part. If the slider is in
the middle (value = 0), then there is no clipping.
- Remove
(button): This is a button with a red cross. Remove the model. (Note: the
Remove button only shows up when you load the models individually using
"File/Load a single .wrl file" option.)
